Cartogram

Cartograms distort the size and shape of an area according to some measurement. The measurement replaces distance; therefore, distorting the size and shapes of the defined areas. The measurement could be any variable from country’s population to percentage of vegetation per country.

The map shown is a Cartogram of "Bottled Water Consumption around the world." The map displays the bottled water consumption per country. If a country consumes a large number of bottled waters then the country is inflated and shaded a darker blue like Mexico; If a country consumes a small amount of bottled water then it is shrunk and shaded a lighter blue like China.
