Isoline Map

Isoline Maps use lines to connect points of equal value. There are many types of Isoline Maps, such as, Isobars, Isotachs, Isopachs, Isohyets, Bathymetric, and Geopotential Heights. Most weather maps are a form of Isoline Maps. Contour Maps use the same system of lines, but their function is to show elevation variations.


The map shown is an Isoline Map of "Profane Mountain, Profile Plains." It displays profanity use across the United States. The isolines are accented with red shading. The lighter the color the more profanity is used; the darker the color the less profanity is used.
